4.2 About the

Game
When Disney decided to release the 20th Anniversary DVD set in early 2002, it was part of a calculated attempt to revive the long dormant

property. Their next step, was to create a game based on the film. There is even an advertisement for the game at the beginning of the DVD.
Back when the game started development in late 2001, it was originally called "Tron Killer App", as you can see on the DVD. While this title was quite ingenious in its own hacker-elite type of way, the name was eventually changed to the more logical

.
Also back then, the web site for the game was very hacker oriented in theme. At first, there was simply a garbled message about entering with Group 7 access, and a warning apparently from Flynn? Later, it pretended to be the main site for fCon or Future Control Industries a monolithic (Monolith, get it?

) corporation that seemed to be of nefarious intent, with the hidden agenda of taking over the world.

In other words, a very cool site to "hack", if you will. It featured interactive Flash animations, that gave you the feeling you were actually hacking your way in. There was also a screensaver you could download, that was similar to parts of the older fCon site.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, the entire fCon site is completely gone now.

Of course, we have the
Official
Site, that tells us about the game. So what are you waiting for? Go there to find out more!
UPDATE: The Official site is completely gone, and in its place you are re-directed to the Disney Interactive Studios main page. Which makes absolutely no mention of
whatsoever, any more. It's like the game never existed. And there is no obvious link to the latest patch. Shame on Disney Interactive (formerly BVG).
The big question now is, will there be another

movie? Well, the latest rumor says a sequel is still a possibility, but it will not be based on the game, as previously thought. No, apparently it will be a sequel to both the film and game, and might be called Tron 3.0. Check out
this article, to find out more.
UPDATE: After the rumors regarding Tron 3.0, came a rumor about a remake of the original film. But now . . . it looks unlikely that there will be a film sequel or another game, any time soon.
Synopsis of the
Game Story taken from the
Official
Site
Twenty years ago, an artificial intelligence known as the Master Control Program (MCP) threatened to take over an unsuspecting world. Only Kevin Flynn, a computer genius, stood between the MCP and rest of humanity. Flynn was digitized into a parallel universe inside the computer, where the MCP pitted programs against each other in gladiatorial combat on the arena known as the Game Grid.
With the help of a security program known as Tron, Flynn ultimately defeated the MCP and returned to the real world.
Twenty years later, Alan Bradley, creator of the original Tron program, has finally replicated the technology needed to successfully digitize a human being into the computer. The secret lies in Ma3a, an artificial intelligence program sophisticated enough to hold within its memory the complete genetic makeup of a human being, and the correction algorithms required to safely restore one to the physical world.
Unfortunately, Alan’s company is on the verge of a corporate takeover. Future Control Industries (fCon) has learned of Alan’s discovery and is interested in the technology for their own nefarious purposes. By digitizing specially trained hackers codenamed DataWraiths, fCon plans to infiltrate the world’s computer networks from the inside.
When Alan suddenly disappears under mysterious circumstances, his son Jet, a talented young computer programmer, enters the world inside the computer in search of answers. He discovers a sinister plot spinning out of control that threatens to corrupt one reality and forever transform another.
Finding his father is paramount, but getting out alive is equally important. To do this, Jet must find within himself the strength to come to terms with his very different father, as well as overcome the otherworldly adversaries encountered in this strange but fantastical world of Tron.
