TRON Roller Coaster may be built in USA, not just China

Post by TronFAQ »

Today I discovered that the TRON Roller Coaster was originally planned to be built at one of Disney’s theme parks in the United States, first. Obviously, plans changed. But, apparently, the door is still open for one to be built in the USA.

Find out more details, and concept art of the proposed early coaster design for the USA, in my article. The USA design is different than what we’re seeing for the Disneyland Shanghai China coaster.

Here’s one of the concept art images from the article.

This looks like a mirror image of the Radiator Springs Cars ride at Disney California Adventure. I remember hearing rumors about Tron being implemented at DCA, but it all seemed to fade away once DCA did their major overhaul and built CarsLand. Pretty cool idea though. I'd rather be racing Tron cars than Lightning McQueen. T-)

Wow, yeah I took a look at photos of the Radiator Springs Racers ride and it looks nearly identical to the plans for the TRON ride. Definitely makes you wonder if they took the plans for TRON and repurposed them into the Racers attraction.

Thanks to TransAm_Paul on and UnitedTronArmy on Twitter, I’ve been made aware of a rumor that a TRON roller coaster may indeed be built in Disney World Florida, replacing the Body Wars ride in the closed down Wonders of Life Pavilion, at EPCOT’s Future World. It will apparently be a Light Cycle ride, very similar to the one recently opened in Shanghai Disneyland.

This confirms info in the article I wrote (mentioned in an earlier post in this topic, to which I've added an update about this news, at the bottom of the article), where I discovered a document from Walt Disney’s Imagineering team, that showed a TRON roller coaster was originally meant to debut in Florida, first. It was also going to be different from the coaster at Shanghai Disneyland, using Light Runners instead of Light Cycles. But, plans obviously changed, and China got the TRON coaster first.

If you want to find out more details about what the US roller coaster was originally going to look like (again, not the same as the one in China), and how the Imagineering document showed that Florida was actually the first pick for the location of the roller coaster, check out my article linked above.

So, I have no idea how accurate this source of news is. But based on the source’s Twitter timeline, it seems pretty legit. (Thanks to UnitedTronArmy on Twitter for making me aware of it!)

https://twitter.com/yourWDWguy/status/8 ... 7170122752" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This individual is stating that the Tomorrowland Speedway ride – at Magic Kingdom, in Walt Disney World Florida – may be replaced by a TRON roller coaster, by the 50th Anniversary of the park. Which would be in 2021.

It’s also stated that whether or not the coaster is built, depends on reception of a #TRON 3 film. Huh.

This lines up with earlier information I have, that always places the coaster as being built at WDW in Florida. In fact, this latest rumor places the coaster almost exactly where the info I had, over a year ago, said it would be.
