I would also think that eventually someone could come up with a work-around to that eventually. Phantasy Star Online for example, still has a good following on player-run servers even after SEGA shut down their servers years ago.
Hmm.. hadn't used Gamespy in a long time, I wonder if there are still Quake II master servers heh-heh.

Gamespy seems to be having problems today. The master server was down earlier, then it came back up. Now it's down again from what I can tell. No mention of it or update on Gamespy's site yet. But it's holiday time so they're probably running things with minimal staff at the moment.
EDIT: Gamespy posted about the outage on Twitter, and I retweeted it on the LDSO Twitter account.
