Also be sure that Vista didn't turn on it's own damn firewall by an online update. I turned my off, but sometimes when Vista makes updates they turn it on again. I already had this twice...
Look in the security-suite of vista itself

Jademz - I've actually tried two other cables. I know for a fact that It's the LAN port on my PC.

I just turned that computer on. It sounded like my old XP computer in it's final days...

I'm beginning to think that it's a defective model. Is Best Buy a good place to buy from? Because I'm considering never purchasing anything from them again. :x

Hmm, so have you exhausted all efforts? there is a possibility that if you updated something the file may have been corrupted.

Sometimes I think back to what I did when I got a failure, and it turns out it was something I did in some instances. I'll give examples:

While updating the hardware, I accidentally installed the video drivers before the motherboard drivers, or forgot to uninstall the old ones first.

Unchechecked a loopback (127.0.0) setting in my firewall, causing the firewall to work improperly.

intermittent firewall degradation, and the 'fore mentioned.

Is this computer the same one that connects to the router only, but not the modem? if so, what happens when you try to connect?

I personally would not get something from best-buy, I've studied PCs closely enough to know they are always about 2+ years behind the standards and quality of my liking. Not that there's anything inherently wrong w/ best buy, I just won't pay what they want for parts, service, ect.

I can't get a really nice rig there w/o paying out the wazoo. Stuff is so cheap on ebay, newegg, and zipzoomfly, why bother? example: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... e=10005936

When you go to the system properties-device manager-network, what does it say, all is well? no red Xs in the panel? no disabled settings on the WAN or WANminiports and whatnot?

Well, we're gonna take it in to Best Buy, cuz they're apparently gonna have Geek Squad look at it for free. I also wanna ask them a few questions regarding Vista security and whatnot. :D

If Vista had acheivements....
