Straw that broke the camel's back? TotalBiscuit vs. 2K Games

Post by TronFAQ »

Seems that the PC version of The Darkness 2 from 2K Games is a shitty console port. What else is new. 2K have a history of treating their PC customers like dirt. They did it before with Bioshock and Bioshock 2. I actually had more than one run-in with 2K Elizabeth on their forums in the past, over the first Bioshock. She's basically a clueless mouthpiece that just does whatever she's told.

Anyway, TotalBiscuit (who's a popular video game commentator from the UK) has gotten fed up with PC versions of games that don't offer an FOV changing option. The Darkness 2 is one of the latest games to suffer from this, and he's had enough. (The game also has no anti-aliasing options, either.) So after reading a statement from 2K Elizabeth where she made up some lame excuse as to why FOV adjustment isn't possible, he made a video to prove her wrong. He completely put the smackdown on her BS excuse.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPDq_qvsKUA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not only that, he got in contact with the developer (Digital Extremes) who promise that they will look into it. So, of course, now 2K Elizabeth is suddenly backtracking and changing her tune. And apparently she was told days ago that they were looking into it and it's possible. Funny, then, that she didn't mention this earlier . . .

She's definitely not a PC gamer like she claims to be, if she can't understand why everyone is making such a fuss.

What's sad is that, if it wasn't for TotalBiscuit having so much influence and shining a spotlight on this issue, it's likely nothing would have been done. Or, at least, there wouldn't have been any positive action this soon. It takes someone in an influential position to get something done that should be a standard feature in the first place. Sad, sad, sad.

I hope that, perhaps, after this event it will bring about a change where more developers and publishers will implement adjustable FOV from the beginning.

Didn't feel like creating a new thread. Totalbiscuit released a video today that, in my opinion, is one of the best he's ever done. It's about gamers not holding game publishers and developers accountable for releasing sub-par products, particularly on the PC.

The video is a bit long, but definitely worth a listen.
