Ok buddie here's what you have to do,
(Keep in mind please I skimmed over all the posts)

1 - D/l the file to your desktop
2 - Open the rar and extract the rez file to your desktop.

3 - Now Open your Tron folder,

*To do so, You will need to probably do this:
*Open windows os and click on your computer.
*Then look for the folder called Program files
*In the Program folder look for the folder called Buena Vista Interactive.
*Open the Buena Vista Interactive Folder and look for the file called:
Tron 2.0.
*In the 2.0 folder look for the folder that is called custom and open it.
*In the custom folder look for the folder called mods and open that.
* In the mods folder, you will now need to either locate or create a folder called : UserError. Title the folder exactly like this: (UserError)

* Open the UserError folder, and drag the UE.rez file into the UserError folder.
*Now close all of your open folders and go back to your desktop.

*Click to open your tron game, but do not click to play.
*In the center under Jet there should now be the word"Custom"
*Click on Custom.
*This shold open a menu that you can see with any of the mods you have installed into your custom folder.
*You should see a icon listed as Usererror.
*Click on the UserError Icon.
*Close the custom menu.
*Now you can select play.
*Wait for the game to load up and then select Singleplayer
*Next select new game and it should, Provided you followed all the steps listed above, start the UserError game for you.

***Please make sure, when you are done playing the UE game.
If you would like to play online,
You must go back and open the custom menu.
You must then de-select UE so everything goes back to default.
You will then be able to play online with your pals.

Hope this short tutorial is helpful.

Any more questions or problems,
Feel free to make a post

I had a small issue at first, but it seems to be okay now. Might have been a "User Error"! HA! GET IT!?!? HUH?!?! HUH?!?!

bleh...

Anyway, it works fine now and although I only saw the intro, I got goosebumps all over again just like the first time I played Tron 2.0.

I'm going to tackle this monster this evening. Thanks, guys! You modders are the heroes of this community and you don't get enough credit for your hard work.

Much kudos!

When did you download the file, Anime? And from which site?

It you downloaded it from LDSO right at the time it was announced, the wrong file was linked. That only lasted for about half an hour or so. Then the link was corrected to the proper version.

There's a simple way to tell if you have the wrong version or not. If there's no new text when you play the game (subtitles, objectives, etc. are blank) then you've got the wrong one.

Basically, you would have known straight away if you downloaded the wrong version.

It's too bad you can't keep your save-game files. This means I'm going to have to play the first five levels for the 4th time (no joke). But, the expansion itself totally makes up for that.
It's not too bad, though. On some of the levels where you're given a path choice, I'm taking the path that I didn't take last time. All in all, it's great. :-D

Two tiny things about the last install instructions, the rez file is named "UserError.rez", and I didn't have a "Mods" folder so I created one, do capital letters matter (I made sure I did caps though)?

After doing both rez-handler and manual method -which appear to have same result, I get the following:
>Launch Tron, on top of main screen on Tron (screen with single player/etc start options) I see "v1.042 - user error" so looks like all's well
>I click on "Single Player" option, "New Game", begins loading but with a displayed title "Unauthorized User"
>Game plays same as original single player

I'm going to guess my problem is I don't have Tron installed in the default "buena vista" folder, instead it's in a "games" folder. Whattya think?

I had the same problem, Daddyo. I also have Tron installed in a "Games" folder. My guess is that you don't know what you're doing either. (just kidding).

I have a folder called "Tron Maps" on my hard drive, and I put the mod in there. I installed it from there with the Rez Handler and it worked fine afterwards. At first, I was getting the regular single player game, but then on the third attempt it started the new mod. Not sure what happened, but it's fixed now.

Afternoon chaps

Curious. I wouldn't expect a mod to just start working after some number of attempts. It's pretty much a case of it working if you have things set up correctly, and not working otherwise.

For a default installation of Tron 2.0, the file UserError.rez (which you would have extracted from the .RAR file that you downloaded) lives in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\Buena Vista Interactive\Tron 2.0\custom\Mods\UserError

As far as I can tell, the directory stucture is not case sensitive, but I don't think that's the issue here.

I'm not sure what your actual directory structure is, but I would've thought that simply matching your path up to the above should be sufficient. I recollect that there is a registry string settting that defines the full path to the root of the tron installation - I'm sure Tronfaq has some wisdom on that.

From the sounds of it, you have created the appropriate directory in the /mods tree, but you haven't got the right file in the directory (if you have even an empty directory under /mods, you can select the name of the directory as the active mod, and it will display that mod name next to the version number in game, but when you start a new game, it reverts to retail (that's exactly what you describe)). It may be that you have a corrupt download (but I wouldn't have expected you to be able to extract the .REZ file from the .RAR archive if that were the case).

So:

1. Could you please show us the full directory path that you are using.
2. Could you please check that the file UserError.REZ (NOT UserError.RAR, NOT a shortcut to UserError.REZ) exists in the directory you specified in point 1 above.

Cheers

First of all, congrats gentlemen for that excellent piece of work. It is very enjoyable and styled, i like it!

About the mod prob (didn't read to all posts already) here some basic step i made when i installed it manually (sorry T to not using your RezHandler, no deeper meaning then i just like to to do things with my bare hands ;) )

-unpack the rar
-go to your installation folder of Tron
-if not exists -> create a folder 'custom'
-jump into 'custom'
-if not exists -> create a folder 'mods'
-jump into 'mods'
-if not exists -> create a folder <choose> (i recommen to use 'usererror')
-put the unpacked REZ-file into 'usererror'
-start game
-use the lower-middle button to get on the Mod-Dialog
-check 'usererror'
-start game

Maybe this can help a bit

Please make sure that the folder name you use to install UE is called UserError

If you title the folder UserError.rez it will not work.

I think the problem that some of you are having is because you installed the game to a custom location, and not the default.

Therefore, you would no longer place the mod .REZ file in C:\Program Files\Buena Vista Interactive\Tron 2.0\Custom\Mods\UserError.

Instead, it would be placed in X:\YourTronDir\Custom\Mods\UserError. You would substitute X:\YourTronDir with wherever Tron 2.0 is installed.

That's if you do it manually, yourself. REZ Handler automatically figures this out, and puts it in the right place.

How exactly do I "unpack" or extract the .rez file? That's all I think I really need help doing. Thing is, my computer (and I'm sure it is) just doesn't do anything when I tell it to get the .rez file from the .rar file. I tell it what to do and nothing happens. Also, when I click on the .rar, it comes up with a window asking me if I want to save the file to my computer, as if I were DOWNLOADING IT from the internet! :-?

It's that window that pops up when you try to download something from the net. "Would you like to save or open the file?"

Natrually, I click open, as I've already saved it onto my hard drive. But then it comes up with the same message!

*Smashes Keyboard*
*Screams at monitor*
*Picks up monitor*
*Throws monitor*
*Monitor hits TV*
*Finally does the right thing by shooting computer with a shotgun*
*Five times*
*No-make that eight times*
TRON.dll: :-D
Onlookers:

So, how can I extract the .rez from the .rar?
