Tron 1.0 Movie Review and Game Dev Papers

Post by Daddyo »

If you spent any time playing arcade games in the 80's a few cutting edge ones were developed for Williams Electronics, to name a few: Robotron 2084, Defender, and Stargate, significantly composed by a Eugene Jarvis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_Jarvis

Somebody got a hold of Eugene's hard drive and found papers such as a really cool basis for Robotron and even a Tron movie review http://atarihq.com/danb/files/VidKidz/tronrev.txt, all here http://atarihq.com/danb/VidKidz.shtml

Funny how he calls Tron "Star Wars in a computer". I've a guess as to what he means by "The acting, plot, and screenplay can be summed up in one statement. Thank God for computer generated 3-D graphics." Those weren't that bad were they?

Found another interesting article http://www.spookycool.com/pdf/Retro-Gam ... yDeMar.pdf

On the second page I see a Star Castle looking game that they dropped. Too bad all their future games lacked interest.

That's the first time I've ever heard of someone comparing Tron with Star Wars. The two couldn't be more different, outside of both having memorable special effects for their time.

As for the story and acting . . . yeah, okay. They were somewhat juvenile. I'll be the first to admit that. But, Tron was still a fun and enjoyable film. Tron Legacy took itself a bit too seriously, and forgot to inject some of the charm from the first film.

Besides, the original Tron could have been even more juvenile than it was. Older scripts had Flynn as a pizza delivery boy, and the MCP acting like a mafia boss. m-(
