derez guide, part 1

Post by data_ghost »

now derez is awesome because is fast paced and involves strategy on how you use the weapons and heres how to pwn at it:
First off, before going into more detail, lemme outline the main guidelines ya'should follow to be good at this

1. MOVE AROUND
honestly the number of people ive seen play that just stand still while trying to hit me with a disc. you have to get used to
attacking someone while strafing and jumping all around them

2. learn the maps
after you play a map a few times you'll naturally remember where the best weapons are, and the best places to snipe etc.
so this rule is easily done by playing often

3. learn the weapons
basically the same as the previous rule but is still important. you wont always get a chance to find your perferred weapon before
running into an opponent, hell you might even be unlucky enough too have to use the disc primitive. the best player therefore
will be able to use every weapon as good as his perferred one.

right, now the PICKUPS, heres whats good and bad about each
DISCS: these are the perferred by the more 'hardcore' players i suppose who believe in accuracy over brute strength. they're hard
to master because of there being no reliable splash damage and having to wait for the discs to return. but veterans of discs can be devestating if used in the right hands, the cluster comes to mind, being a 1 hit kill with less energy used than a pbit.

Suffusion: the shotgun of the tron world acts pretty much as a shotgun should, awesome close range, pathetic long range. if your being sniped with one of these in your hand then you'd better run for cover. also these have a charging up feature to increase their power. now this can be handy but can cause a lot of noise, which can give away where you are and give your opponent and warning that your coming.

LOL: the sniper of the tron world. if your planning on sniping someone make sure your in a high up and well protected place. also make sure your near to a energy powerup because these thing eat up your energy fast, which also means that if you find suddenly that there's someone behind you about to pop a disc up yo ass you dont have any energy left to use a decent weapon against them.

ball: the 'nade of the tron 2.0 world, a vastly underused weapon i think. firstly, although it is useless in direct combat (long or short range) it can be used as a alternative to the LOL by being used to drop onto players below if you're high up. but the best feature of this weapon is that if thrown close to a wall, it sticks and becomes a proximity bomb. provided your not stupid enough to forget where these bombs are and walk into one, they can be used in narrow areas and are very powerful because of their fairly big explosion. this way of using the ball is all the better with a corrode, because it means that they carry on being damaged before you even run into them.

ball launcher: the closest thing to a grenade launcher in the game. it essentially fires balls but with a lot smaller splash damages. advised to use if your not mullet haired enough to use the drunken dims for their splash damage, and perfere better accuracy and a faster projectile

drunken dims: my favourite weapon, it fires a group of 5 balls, and it has a much higher splash damage than the ball launcher. in a trade off from this, the projectile (the thing it fires) is a lot slower meaning it's easier to dodge and if fired at long-range, your opponents no where near where he was when you fired. because of this if going for accuracy, you need a good understanding of how fast an opponent is running, the speed of the projectile and the the distance from the target to be able to fire at the correct place infront of your opponent.

mesh primitive: the submachine gun of the game, wastes a lot of energy if constantly fired. i find firing in burst for accuracy and energy's sake is the best way to use this weapon. because of how this weapon does relatively low damage in short bursts, its most effective to use it with the corrode subroutine because it mean that with just a single hit you can start their countdown to find a health powerup or die (cue mwa-ha-ha).

prankster bit (pbit): a weapon that has been disputed whether is fair to use and has been called a n00b tactic if used. but i thing this rocket launcher type weapon is a quick way to kill someone close range and is a better counter if someone is trying to LOL you than LOLing them back. mind you, you need 60 energy to use this weapon so its best to use this weapon when you have 100, so that you can still use any other weapons if someone attacks after you've used the pbit.

misc powerups
armour: should second on your list of what to equip with after decent weapons. try to find the truncate because it offers the best protection but any armours still good, and could save you albeit with 1HP.

megahurtz : increases the damage done by a weapon and the energy cost. this is important to keep in mind because if your guna use 1-hit kill weapons like sniping with a LOL or use a p-bit, then getting this will simply handicap you. but using a low punch weapon like a mesh prim would be very suiting.

corrode: causes any opponent hit by your weapons to continue losing HP a while after being hit. should either kill or extremely lower your health so sprinting to a health powerup would be advisable. but if your using a weapon with high splash damage like a drunken dims be careful because if you get caught in the explosion you could corrode yourself.

triangulate: lets you zoom like with a LOL with any weapon. pretty much useless uneless you want to blow someone to kingdom come with a p-bit from long-range.

profiler: a novelty mostly, letting you see the health, armor and subroutine. again, pretty much useless.

this is only part 1 btw, part 2 will feature tips on each dm map, but anyway, thanks for reading!
