History

REZ Handler was a tool created to manage and install custom fan-made map and mod .REZ files.

Version 1.x Branch

Version 1.0 was released December 13, 2003. At this time, the program simply allowed you to enable and disable individual map .REZ files that end-users manually installed themselves. Many new maps were being released, and the total number quickly exceeded the maximum number of .REZ files the game was capable of handling at once. A method of disabling some of the maps was needed, to prevent the game from acting strangely when too many .REZ files were active.

Version 1.1 was released March 1, 2004. It added the ability to enable or disable multiple .REZ files at once, create presets of favorite map sets that could be swapped between active and inactive status, and an option to run the game launcher after exiting the program.

Version 1.2 was released December 26, 2004. This was a major update of the program. It added the ability to automatically install map and mod .REZ files, combine map .REZ files to reduce their count in order to stay under the game's .REZ limit, and a feature to remove the TCDG directory.

Version 1.3 was released August 2, 2005. This version mainly fixed bugs from the previous version, and was the last of the v1.x branch released.

Version 2.0 Branch

Starting in late 2005, a brand new version of REZ Handler created from scratch was in development. This version was intended to greatly expand the scope of the program's features. It was meant as a replacement for the TRON 2.0 game launcher: which would include not only the launcher's features, as well as the features from the previous versions of REZ Handler, but it would also add many other new abilities.

REZ Handler 2.0 would automatically download new or updated maps or mods, allow management of currently active mods (both normal ones and TCDG mods), integrate with a global web based TRON 2.0 chat room, and allow listing and joining TRON 2.0 multiplayer servers outside of the game. The program would prompt players if they did not have the map or mod currently in use on the server, and offer to automatically download it.

After a couple of functionally incomplete pre-alpha versions were created, development of REZ Handler 2.0 ceased in late 2007 due to lack of interest from the community. The first pre-alpha was released to the public with a fully working server browser, but all other features disabled.

The Server List feature is now useless, due to GameSpy no longer listing TRON 2.0 servers. Please visit the Multiplayer Fix page for more details.

The Adobe Flash Plugin is needed to display this content.
