Jet (Jethro) Bradley
Jet was born shortly after the events in the film. His parents are Alan and Lora.
While Alan is his father, Jet seems to take more after his godfather: Kevin Flynn. He is rebellious toward authority figures and has a knack for programming and hacking computers. Jet's also quite skilled at video games.
Even though Jet and his father don't always see eye-to-eye, they are still family. So when his father goes mysteriously missing, Jet immediately sets out to find him. What awaits Jet, is far more than he bargained for. A trip inside the electronic world!
As you have just read, Jet is the main protagonist in .

Alan Bradley
Alan is a main character from the film, who created the security program known as that helped destroy the Master Control Program (MCP) running Encom. He marries Lora, and they have a son named Jet. They decide to make Flynn Jet's godfather.
Alan has recently been working with another program he wrote, named Ma3a, to try and re-create the digitization process that the MCP used to bring Flynn into the electronic world, in the film. It seems that the MCP alone knew how to properly digitize real world objects, without introducing errors in the process. Since the MCP was destroyed, that information was lost. Alan believes he is now on the verge of re-creating the correction algorithms necessary to make digitization a reality again.

Ma3a
Ma3a is the most recent program created by Alan (preceded by Ma1a and Ma2a). Ma3a stands for Math Assistant 3 Audio (pronounced mah-three-ah). This program's purpose is to assist Alan Bradley in his efforts to re-create a working digitization process. Embedded in her code, are the algorithms necessary to achieve this.
Ma3a is the one responsible for Jet's entry into the electronic world, and is his guide and companion during his time there. Along the way, Jet comes to realize that Ma3a bears a curious resemblance to his mother.

Byte
Byte is a companion of Ma3a's. When Jet arrives in the electronic world, Ma3a sends him to act as Jet's first guide. He helps Jet to understand his abilities as a User, in this new realm. Since he is more complex than a simple Bit, Byte is capable of speaking full sentences.
As it turns out, Byte believes Users are overrated and doesn't think much of Jet at first. As their time together progresses, Byte comes to respect Users more than he has previously.

Mercury
Mercury is a champion Light Cycle AI gamebot. Unlike most other similar types of game AI, she is very sophisticated and is capable of doing more than just playing in the games. However, defeating opponents on her Super Cycle is what she does best. Apparently, no opponent has ever beaten her.
When Jet meets her, she is very intrigued with him. Unlike Byte, she has a lot of respect for Users and finds the opportunity to be with one an enlightening experience.
Who Mercury's User creator is, remains something of a mystery.

I-No
I-No is an old program that exists in a seldom used, outdated Encom mainframe computer. He comes from the same era that does, when Flynn was first digitized into the system.
While I-No would currently be considered obsolete, during his time he was a respected and forward-thinking program. Even now, he surprises Jet with his insights into the system and ability to adapt to new circumstances.

Game Bot
Gamebots are simple AI scripts that play in the games. They aren't as sophisticated as a program like Mercury, and only do what they know best. In fact, Gamebots are usually under the control of Users during a game.

ICP Kernel
The Kernel is in charge of the operating system on Encom's mainframe computers. He is the succesor to Sark, from the film.
Unlike Sark, he has not lost his true purpose, and defends the system from any and all threats. He also believes in the Users, but like Byte he does not hold them in the greatest regard. When a devastating virus starts attacking the system, the Kernel comes to believe that this threat co-incided with Jet's arrival.
Therefore, Jet must be the cause and needs to be eliminated. The Kernel does not believe that Jet is actually a User.

ICP Regular
The ICPs are the Kernel's soldiers, helping to maintain order in the system. They are the successors of the Guards from the film.
Unfortunately for Jet, his encounters with the ICPs are generally never pleasant. He is forced to combat them, because they believe he is somehow connected with the virus that's causing corruption throughout the system.

Finder
Finders are drones that patrol an area, monitoring for intruders. When one is spotted, it sends out an alarm and attacks with a powerful energy beam.
These are dangerous and annoying enemies that should be dealt with immediately. Just be careful not to get too close when you de-rezz them, because they explode in a large burst of energy that can be deadly.

Resource Hog
Resource Hogs are obsolete, bloated programs that continue to exist in some areas of the system. All they can think about, is finding ways to continue to feed their voracious appetite for system processing time and energy. At any cost.

J.D. Thorne
Thorne is the true cause of the viral corruption spreading throughout the Encom system.
He was sent by fCon to try and steal the secret to the digitizing process from Alan. Not knowing about the correction algorithms, he decided to test the digitization process on himself. Without the algorithms, his pattern was corrupted upon entering the electronic world. He has gone insane and is using his abilities as a User to become a god-like figure, spreading his influence whenever possible.
If Thorne isn't stopped, he will eventually destroy the electronic world inside the Encom system.

Rector Script
The Rector Script is a by-product of Thorne's presence in the system. These apparition-like figures help spread Thorne's corruptive chaos, infecting everything within reach.

Z-Lot
A Z-Lot is a program which Thorne has corrupted. They now only serve Thorne, with fanatical zeal.
Aside from carrying out deeds for him, they try to convert other programs to Thorne's cause whenever possible by infecting them as well.

fCon DataWraith
DataWraiths are elite Users trained by fCon to enter the electronic world. Their purpose is to commit crimes for fCon, from within the system.
Imagine hacking a bank or a competitor's computer system from the inside. This is the DataWraith's mission. Since DataWraiths are Users just like Jet, his encounters with them are a deadly serious struggle for control within the electronic world.
When de-rezzed, DataWraiths do not die. Instead, they return to the real world.

fCon Seeker
The Seeker is a search engine program created by fCon. Encounters with these worm-like monsters are always unpleasant and extremely dangerous.

fCon Team
Eva Popoff, Seth Crown, and Esmond Baza make up the team sent by fCon to assume control of Encom, after fCon's hostile takeover bid succeeds.
fCon is after the digitizing technology that would allow their representatives to enter the electronic world, and commit crimes from the inside. They eventually succeed, sending in DataWraiths to set their plans in motion.
