Downloading...Avi wrote:Just a heads up:
There's a pretty cool racing game called TrackMania Nations Forever. It's a free download via Steam, but I'm not sure where to find it now. Just look for that name on your Steam program and it should come up. There's also a pay version of the game, but we just play the free one.
Since your PC can now handle it, go pick up BF2 for ten bucks at Circuit City or Best Buy.

Sorry, kinda late response here..Avi wrote:Has anyone ever had any problem with Battlefield 2142 closing to the desktop while trying to load a map? It seems to happen when it gets to the part where it optimizes the shaders if you changed your video settings or are loading it from a fresh installation. All of my drivers are up to date. This has gone on all week, until last night when I was finally able to load the Camp Gibraltar map and play a round online. When I was finished, I loaded BF Vietnam and in the middle of my 2nd round the game disappeared also. Should I delete the entire EA Games folder and reinstall everything again? I installed BF 2142 3 times this week before I finally got it to load a map. All of my other games run really good...HL2, Far Cry, etc.
Any ideas?
I was playing against someone in TRON 2.0 once, and they said that steam went to their desktop. I can't think of who that was, though...
It's likely a problem with Steam, and not BF 2142. That's what I think, anyways.
Regarding TrackMania:
When you register freinds in TrackMania, does the game want their TrackMania account name, or their Steam account name?

Mine is av1tr0n.
Written out as A-V-One-T-R-Zero-N...I'm surprised at how many people catch the 1, but put a letter O instead of a zero.
EDIT:
For Nvidia owners: click on the link below, and you can DL some HL2 stuff for free. You get the Portal First Slice demo, as well as HL2 Deathmatch, the Lost Coast, and Peggle Extreme.

I think there's a free offer for ATI Radeon owners as well, but not sure.

That "First Slice" offer has been around for quite a while. It was spawned from a partnership that Valve (or Steam, idk) had with NVIDIA. I doubt that there's an offer there for ATI owners.Avi wrote:Mine is av1tr0n.

EDIT: I checked out that offer, Avi. I was wondering, what is the HL2: Lost Coast thing? Do I neccisarily need it to play MP with you guys, or do I just want the Deathmatch demo?

There is an offer for ATI, but it doesn't include the Portal demo...just the HL2 games.
The Lost Coast is a single level game for HL2. It's not that long, but it's fun to play through at least once. There's no multiplayer for it, but it comes with a video stress test which will tell you what your FPS is for HL2.
HL2 Deathmatch is multiplayer only, and although not many of us play it, it's still a cool little game. You can use your gravity gun to hurl objects that are lying on the ground at your opponents. Probably the only game where you can kill someone with a toilet.

Here's a cool screen from tonight. I was playing in the Right To Rule 24/7 Avalanche server, and I was dominating this kid named Shoo. He finally sneaks up on me and blasts me, but not before a few team members lined him up in their sights. What resulted is this screenshot of poor Shoo being blown away as soon as he extracted his revenge on me. Notice the sparks on the bricks as bullets ricocheted all around him, giving poor Shoo little chance of survival.
