Anyone else try this MMORPH (or however you spell that) game? http://apps.pirates.go.com/pirates/v3/
I played it for an hour and was suprised how well done it seemed to be, at least in the beginning. It had the movie's actors voices in it. You can gamble on blackjack and poker. I'm going to try it some more to see if combat is more arcade like than 'click a move'. Install is 1/2 gig.
It's free, but paid version lets you of course go a little further in skills & boat. It seems very similar to Pirates of the Burning Seas http://www.burningsea.com/page/home that I got to beta test for a while. I always get bored after a month or two of this type of game, so the free version is perfect for me.

I tried Pirates for a couple of months. It was okay, but it lacks content to keep your interest going. It was real laggy too. If they have fixed the lag, it is a cool MMORPG for the younger crowds. So if your kid wants to get into gaming, it's a cool and safe game for them.

Wow, sounds like Disney's got a big problem with lag lately. Consider the TRON and Disks of TRON ports on XBOX Live; they're very laggy (although I can't judge it for myself, that's what I heard about it from others).
I think that POTC Online thing is basically the version of Disney's Toontown that's supposed to cash in on a movie.
Oh, and Load81, if your kid wants to get into gaming, TRON 2.0 is a cool and (usually) safe game!

I was a beta tester for POTCO,
And still have full access to that account.
In fact thats how Load came to play the game also,
I gave him a beta key, so he is also a beta tester.
The beta accounts are still active and they currently use them for testing,
And was something special they kept live for all the beta testers.
Unfortunatly,
I did pay to be a charter member when the game went live.
Have to agree with Load,
For a MMORPG,
The game lacks story content,
And their quests fall greatly to others like WOW or LOTRO.
Also if you dont pay to play,
There are spammer adds all over the screen,
And you have extremely limited access,
On how far your character can progress,
And what skills you are able to use.
(Not to mention the lag on the free servers blows major chunks)
A large part of the game is having voodoo magic skills,
As well as ships.
If you dont pay to play,
You have to use a extremely limited little 1 sail ship,
And forget about being able to use any magic powers.
Also with a free account,
You are only able to complete,
Half of the first chapter of the MMORPG story line,
Which seems a great waste of time to even start,
Since you cant continue it.
I will say that I have met some of the developers for POTCO,
And they are actually a very cool group of talented people.
Sadly it just goes to show,
That once again Disney limits things horribly,
And time will tell if the game will last.
Disney is very into whats hot now,
They like to cash in quick,
Then drop things when they feel its done w/o explaination,
And move onto the next thing they see fit.
Currently they aquired Club Penguin for something like 7 million dollars,
And their Toon Town online seems to still thrive,
Even though the graphics engine they seem to use for it,
Looks as though it came from late 1995-98 pc games.
POTCO had lots of potential,
And for kids I would say its great.
Who doesnt want to sail with Jack Sparrow,
Or be a cursed pirate right?
However,
Unless your willing to pay the big bucks, (9.99 a month)
I would say dont waste your time.
A lot of time and developement seems to be going into the game.
So at the moment, it does look as though Disney plans to keep the game around for a while.
In fact the current look and state of the game,
(IMO) should be how they opened it to beta testing.
There are still lots of glitches, (Bad thing),
And lots of new things being added constantly, (Good thing).
They even have some cool little perks for paid members,
A actual cloth map, sent to us in a tube for being a charter member.
Then recently just after I closed my paid account,
They sent me 2 14 day unlimited access passes to give to friends,
A fully detailed high quality players guide, and a decent size black pirate flag.
(This is their Unlimited access crew kit)
End result however,
There is just to many aspects of POTCO that lack,
To hold interest.
Again I say if your looking for a MMORPG,
Play LOTRO, WOW, or some of the other Pirates based MMORPG's.
Good topic!

It's a real shame to hear that. They seem to do this time and again.Mor.Evil-1 wrote:Sadly it just goes to show,

I know we all laughed when Disney announced the Desperate Housewives game. But there are people who bought it, and Disney owes them support. Can you guess what happened to the DH message forum? Yep, disappeared. After less than two years.
I think I know what their problem is, now. They're an entertainment company. Not a game company. Being a part of the games industry is new to them (I'm talking about games that aren't children's titles), and something they do on the side. They still haven't learned yet, how to be a serious player in the marketplace.

I came up with a genius idea over at TRON sector last week. I review Nintendo DS demos as I play them.
http://www.tron-sector.com/forums/defau ... &id=361311
I reviewed two Disney games. You'll probably enjoy reading those.
