Cutscenes woes.

Post by ricktn1 »

First of all, Thank you for breathing life into a game I left on the shelf for years! Lack of widescreen support had destroyed my chances of enjoying this game up until I tripped upon your KA mod, which is great, as this game is one of my top choices... And still looks fantastic to this day.

To my problem, It is only minor but annoying. While gameplay is all correctly presented in widescreen via your KA mod, cutscenes however are not. They are in the correct resolution (1920x1080 or any widescreen resolution I try) but are stretched, just like in 4:3 resolutions on a 16:9 display.

Have you any ideas as to what is going on here?

Some revelent specs:

Windows 7x64
Nvidia GTX 470 (DVI to HDMI connected, 258.96 drivers, 1920x1080 resolution)

Hmm, yeah that shouldn't happen. The cutscenes are supposed to be fixed as well. There shouldn't be any stretching whatsoever.

It sounds like something possibly went wrong during the install of the mod. The installer generates patched game content based on your choices during install. Sounds like somehow some files didn't get patched like they should have. The installer needs up to 2.5 GB of space to complete the install correctly. (1 GB temporary space, up to 1.5 GB for installed content.)

I would try uninstalling and then reinstalling the mod to see if it fixes that problem.

Ok thanks for the suggestion. I tried several times... no joy, but...

I then I decided to look elsewhere and poke around my computer and lo and behold, my antivirus program was silently quarantining that specific part of the install without telling me. I added permissions for the patcher, reinstalled and now it works flawlessly! Hmmm... Stupid AV program... I'm assuming the patcher is virus free 8-)

Ironic... The silly program in question is Norton... Say it backwards

Thanks again and great work guys.

Thumbs up.

Thanks for figuring it out and letting me know about that, much appreciated. I'll keep it in mind in case anyone else has a similar problem.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the way the installer works with its patching activities: some anti-virus programs will get a little paranoid and think it's exhibiting malware-like behavior. This has been reported to me once before. I actually used a couple of online malware scanners to scan a part of the setup program to show that it's clean.

Setup - Virustotal result
Setup - Jotti's malware scan result

And I just did scans on the patcher program in question with these sites . . .

Patcher - Virustotal result
Patcher - Jotti's malware scan result

All clean. :D
