Tr2n Circuit Boards
I recently had an opportunity to make a circuit card at work, and had an idea of making a design with something like a tr2n logo on it. If you guys have ideas, let me know. We can even throw chips all over it, or make it light up or something. There's 3 color LEDs that might look pretty cool, or especially the blue or white LEDs.
Since I'm sure I couldn't sell them legally even to cover my costs, I could just put out the schematic file for free. Then you yourself could have it made (not to sell of course) by sending it to an online service. It'll cost about $10 - $15/each for a bare board if you have two made. And if you want parts on it, you'd have to solder them yourself, or you could just glue them if you like the look.
Anyone know if there's legal problems doing just this? Anyone interested? Anyone have designs? I keep thinking of Jade's forum signature on a keychain or monitor sticky.
Another thought, interface it to your computer via usb or even more costly via wireless to Tronlink & have it flash when someone wants to game! Haha

I was looking for cheaper boards, and found a german service with this girl on the main page, thought she was very tron-like hehe

Concerning weather it's legal or not: Maybe. I once tried to get a birthday cake with a picture of Donkey Kong on it (one of those "choose a picture and we'll put it on the cake!" deals). They said they couldn't because of copyright violations. I think the problem is that this supermarket is selling you a cake with a Nintendo-owned character on it, and not paying any royalties (or having the rights) to Nintendo.
Considering the idea with Tronlink: lol

If your custom making them for yourself, I kinda would think they wouldn't care. I found a much better price btw, $20 (vice original $50 in original post) for two boards at 1"x2", but they would be yellow, if you want them coated green it'd be $30 for 2.
An alternate idea is to make them say LDSO with tron font, or Tron-Sector. Whattya think?

The idea is, they're making money off of the unlicsenced use of another company's character/brand/product.Daddyo wrote:If your custom making them for yourself, I kinda would think they wouldn't care.
I think Disney might own the TRON font, too. I dunno.I found a much better price btw, $20 (vice $50) for two boards at 1"x2", but they would be yellow, if you want them coated green it'd be $30 for 2.

As for colors, where's blue?!? TRON is blue, and the TR2N logo is blue, so a blue circuit board that has to do with TRON would make sense!
Also, the pic you posted above looked sorta like Yori IMO, lol.

Here's a 3d view of a pc board, but I only threw some traces on it, I could put real circuit traces on it...as well as real circuits...

There's a hole on the bottom left actually (it's painted green for some reason), big enough for a keychain ring. This is the size of a USB memory stick. I have to fix the letters/number a little to perfect it. Could put the blue LEDs on top of the letters. You can get a blue coating on everything, but that's going back to $50 board makers, or spray it yourself. It's double-sided too.

Do you think tr2n should be hollow, with LEDs running through the center? I can find a watch battery holder and stick it on the back, and a little button. Or maybe an accelerometer so it lights when you jingle your keys eh? That wouldn't be too hard to do. Then you'll have real circuit traces. If you don't want to solder parts on, just leave it blank. It's all for fun.Jademz wrote:Can you make onw w/ circuit pattern and one hollow TR2N?
I could etch on the back LDSO & Tron-Sector in spare spots. I'm starting to kinda like the pointy parts of the name, maybe I should leave it like that?
Maybe Disney will want me to make a boatload for them hehe

Yeah, I like the center cut out to add a clear epoxy and (we discussed this last night) using electroluminescent tape. LED would be cool, and they come in super small size too, probably brighter. I was thinking maybe put a backing on it to fit more stuff, the epoxy would also be UV active, as could the backing. You can do anything. Put a tron jingle on it.Daddyo wrote:Do you think tr2n should be hollow, with LEDs running through the center? I can find a watch battery holder and stick it on the back, and a little button. I think this board may be applicable under "fair use" laws, if it's kept as an "incidental and fortuitous reproduction". So if anyone want's the drawings for one so that you can make it yourself, just PM me.
Lawyers argue over what that 'and' means, which has been proven to mean 'or' in cases. Sounds crazy? Maybe.

I tried routing this close-to-scale image of the board, but no luck, may take a bit of work to make it work, and scale up size. The little grey rectangles are the LEDs. Routing is having the computer put the traces/wires on the circuit board to hook it up according to a schematic.

Then I just deleted TR2N traces and came up with this cryptic looking board, I even put the vias (holes that conduct electricity through the board) in spots I wanted to complete the TR2N letters (can you see it?)

Here's the scaled version of this, that will actually light up:

You'll have to use your imagination to see what this will look like in the dark with the LEDs glowing blue. The battery is on the back. It's pretty easy to make changes.
[EDIT] 'imaginate...'

Holey cow! Hehe only you X.
I'm thinking it needs an LED on the bottom left of the 2, should I fill in the N with LEDs too? I looked at it again and sorta like the screwy look though.
Right now it'd just be a push button to light it. I'll see what it takes to put an accelerometer on there, only problem is the soldering is quite a bit more advanced to put a surface mount chip on, if that's what I have to do. I could easly have multiple versions around and you just build what you want.
