I just ordered the extremely rare soundtrack to George Romero's "Day Of The Dead" for 20 bucks. I just KNOW that I'll get an e-mail saying that the item is now out of stock and blah blah blah would I like to buy something else instead.
I ordered 4 copies of Lucio Fulci's "The Beyond" from Best Buy (was going to sell them for 4X more on ebay), and it took two months for them to tell me that they couldn't find the DVD's. I hope that doesn't happen this time.

I just found this out today:
A remake of George Romer's "Day Of The Dead" has been made, and it will be releases straight to DVD on April 8th. Here's a link:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489018/
What sucks is that they are using really young looking actors to play the parts of older characters, and all of a sudden the main female character's boyfriend is black instead of Spanish. Don't start with "Avi, you're a racist bastard, blah blah blah". I just hate when they substitute different ethnicities in remakes to make them more current.
I'll probably check it out next weekend and give you all a full review, but I am already biased against it. That happens to be my favorite of all the George Romero movies, and you don't mess with a classic.

Send more Policemen. . . . .
Brainssssssssssssssssssssss!!!
Send more ambulances . . . . . . .
Brainssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!
Your now figuring out some of the reasons behind LDSO's name Avi!!
One of my personal fav horror movies of all time!!
** A note on Zombies . .. . . ... .....
Some of my pals and I have talked about "Running Zombies",
Heres our theory on that . . .
Freshly killed zombies should be able to move around a little quicker, perhaps even run, rigormortis has not set in yet so ok we can buy that.
Give it a few hours, days, or even freshly risen from the grave zombies,
Yeah right, they are lucky to even move at all.
Any thoughts from your end??
Peace
Mor

I agree with the pre-Rigor Mortis theory...but what about zombies that can run even faster in death than they could while alive? Where does the ability to rip a person's limb off in one yank come from once you're dead? No one has offered an explanation yet.
The new Day of the Dead movie (coming out tomorrow on DVD) has zombies that have superhuman strength that goes beyond biting through a skull in one chomp.
Here's the trailer for the new version:

I'm writing the soundtrack to a movie that me and my other horror-loving friends have come up with. It's a spaghetti western (ala The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly), but with zombies. The music has elements of Western Americana, Italian Horror, and German electronica. The movie itself will never see the light of day, but if someone decided to take that ball and run with it, I have the music already!
Let's continue with the zombie discussion. I have many theories about certain aspects of the undead.

Review of the Day Of The Dead remake:
Yes, I bought it. No, it was not worth the fifteen bucks. Maybe ten.
As a zombie movie, it was enjoyable. Lots of gore and flesh chomping, but sadly too much CGI. As a remake of George Romero's original masterpiece, this movie falls completely flat. The only things this movie has in common with it's mentor are the names of a few characters. The plot, location, and relationships of different characters have all been changed in order to cash in with younger audiences. All of the actors are fresh-faced generic kids...which makes me not care if they get eaten or not. The original movie takes place in an underground bunker...the remake only features a bunker in the last 15 minutes or so. Total fail.
The acting is pretty standard for a zombie flick. Nothing worth mentioning here.
The gore is half FX, half CGI. Some parts were pretty sick, while others were just lame. When they show the zombies getting set on fire, be prepared to feel embarrassed for the studio that launched this DVD. I could have done just as good using Gimp and an animated GIF creator. It was as weak as an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer...no kidding.
The makeup was acceptable. Lots of holes in faces and internal organs being exposed. I had no problem with this part...in fact, I thought it was pretty good. These goons looked GROSS!
BUT...after much thought, this movie does NOT really qualify as a zombie flick. Even though it was inspired by a classic zombie film, it has more to do with the 28 Days/Weeks Later movies. These zombies are transformed by a virus that is caught like a common cold. No dead people rise from the graves, but instead the living become infected and devour human flesh (except for the few people that are immune to the virus...which is basically the main cast). They run, jump tremendous heights, and can even CRAWL ON WALLS AND CEILINGS after becoming infected!! That part made me laugh at it's stupidity. How can a virus make you turn into Spiderman? C'mon! They also dodge moving cars and hide dead bodies. WTF?
Ving Rhames (who also starred in the remake of Dawn of the Dead) makes an appearance, which I think should be classified as a cameo and nothing more. He playes Rhodes, the unlikable military guy from the original Romero film...but the similarities stop there. His part could have been cut completely and made very little difference in the storyline. Maybe he has a clause that states that he must be involved in all Romero remakes?
Well, that's enough rambling. My final verdict is: If you're a Romero fanboy, avoid this movie like the plague...but if you just like seeing some gut-chomping zombie action, proudly add this to your collection (preferably, after it goes on sale for ten bucks at Best Buy or Circuit City). I probably won't watch it again for a while, but I'll definitely lend it out to friends who are fans of the genre.

Here are modern day pics from the cemetery in the beginning of Night Of The Living Dead.

Finally got around to watching Land of the Dead last night. It wasn't that good, really. Some nice gore FX, but the story was pretty weak (even by zombie standards).

Has anyone gone to see The Happening?
I read about it, and it comes across as possibly the dumbest plot I've ever heard. The scenes of people killing themselves looked interesting, but when you hear about what's causing them to do it...egads. My son could have come up with a more convincing story.
M. Night Shamalamadingdong was a one trick pony, but it took 3 or 4 more failed tricks for people to figure it out.

I decided to look it up:
The possiblility of the scenerio coming true?!?!?  :lol:Shock: I know "Scientific American"* grilled you earlier at the press conference earlier (see below) and the bees were something out there, but did you look into all the possibilities of this movie's scenario coming true?
Shyamalan: Definitely, yeah, we did and we got all kinds of research on similar events that happened in the water, plankton releasing toxins and things like that, which just happened again, there were some neurotoxins released in a lake in Bali or Thailand or something like that. Then there was interesting articles about things rising. One of the things that I guess was in the back of my mind was that one in six emergency room cases for the United States is asthma-related. I'm going, "What? When I was a kid, the kid who had asthma was that freak kid three schools down who had asthma." Now, it's like every other kid has asthma. Everybody's like wheezing and there's a line outside the nurse's office for an inhaler. What's that about? We're becoming allergic to what? There's peanut-free tables in every school right now. When was that (done)? We're all becoming really sensitive to something in the air.

It's not about bees or allergies.
It's about the *cringe* (spoiler alert) trees releasing toxins in the air to have their revenge on man for what he's done to the planet...and somehow, the trees control the wind or something. Some horror movie, huh?
The toxins make the person commit suicide in whatever method is handy at the moment. The suicide stuff seemed like an original concept for a movie, but trees releasing toxins? And they have the ability to target individual people? It reminds me of the forest in Wizard Of Oz, where the trees throw apples at the main characters. Even THAT was more believable than "toxins".
