What I meant, was that you'd probably have to lower the resolution to get a decent framerate. At 1024x768 you might get 30+ FPS, but at 1280x1024 or above you might be looking at around 15-20 FPS.
The description for that Aspire mentions a PCI-E 16x slot, but says it's not free (i.e. being used already). I wonder what the heck could be occupying that slot, considering the computer has integrated graphics. But without a free PCI-E 16x slot, you can never upgrade to a better graphics card than what you have onboard.
As for the other PCs, it would take some time for me to digest that list and make any other suggestions.
Honestly, if you could get someone to help you build a PC so you can pick out your own parts, you'd be a lot better off when it comes to value for your money.
Oh CRAP

Just got an Acer Aspire. Yey.
I also picked up Portal while I was at the store, for obvious reasons. Two employees told me that this thing should be able to run Portal at almost top settings pretty smooth. Here's the old specs compared to the new ones:
Old - New
------------
OS: XP - Vista Home Premium
RAM: 300MB - 2GB
Processor: 598MHz - 2.6 GHz
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 64MB - NVIDIA GeForce Integrated (likely 256MB)
Hard Drive: *I don't know* - 360 GB
------------
I think I made a good purchase. I don't really want any criticism, and I'm sure you can all understand that. Thanks!

If BF2 loaded via cassette, it would take 500+ hours to load it, and back then impossible to have it done reliably. The tape would have to be 60 miles long. Pretty big real of tape. Nice things computers have advanced a little bit.Daddyo wrote:I'll have to figure out how long it would take to load BF2 on a cassette tape.

Yes, I'm very happy. My mind was blown when I saw Portal's graphics, as I have never seen a computer run a game like that so smooth, lol.tronfaq wrote:Well TRON.dll, it sounds like you got something better than that $300 Aspire you were looking at. Hope you're happy with it.
Today I've gotta try DEFCON and TRON 2.0.

Sorry, but ...TRON.dll wrote:I don't really want any criticism, and I'm sure you can all understand that. Thanks!

You want to get rid of it, just to get back 500 of your RAM (especially when it is shared Memory for onboard-stuff). Put WinXP on your system, will you?

Yeah, I understand. I've got 2 gigs of RAM on here though, so I think I'm good for most applications. These webpages are loading faster than I'm used to them loading, it's disorientating!xistence wrote:Sorry, but ...TRON.dll wrote:I don't really want any criticism, and I'm sure you can all understand that.
