ok i have a LG xenon cell phone. the screen somehow broke two nights ago. so i call my sis and ask her if i could use her old phone its a black berry curve. so last night at like 1am i get a message(i did not read it till morning i was sleeping) and it said and i quote "at&t Free msg: your smartphone requires a data plan.for your convenience, we have added a minimum plan to your phone. call 611 or go 2 att.com/smartphoneplans 4 info
when my grandfather called (its his plan) they told him my phone wont work right without it. however my sister never had a data plan EVER and in fact got her phone on ebay and used it on her plan and never had this problem. this is explained on the website and i quote: "Q: I want a smartphone, but don't want a monthly data plan, what options do I have?
A: Our quick messaging phones are a great option for customers who want a full QWERTY keyboard for messaging but may not want to commit to the monthly data plan required for smartphones. We also have a huge selection of other phones and devices offering a solution to meet every customer need.
so i would have to use a different phone not to get charged.
so my question: is this fair treatment of customers?

Heck no! In a year if they don't cut it out you'll get a letter regarding a class action lawsuit and your refund.

In the meantime get a iPad haha
