I hope your wrong tronfaq. but in the eventuality that you are right, im sure there will pe plenty of people playing tron 2.0 to keep it alive, I, for one, will be one of them. heck, I might not even switch to tron legacy if its too different.
I know that this must sound very pessimistic, but, as i'm working in the game-industry and i'm following personally computergames since the 80's, i can just point on these facts based on experiences made over the years:
Disney already proved that their marketing is following a different strategy then others do (like EA, Ubisoft, etc). They don't keep there eyes on communities or games with a real MMO-nature. But this is what we expected with Tron 2.0 and what we wished to get.
Second, those who will be the main audience for this sequel 'Legacy' might be just partially fans who know about the original Tron. But the rest will be a younger audience demanding popcorn-cinema, action and effect, they don't know about the special atmosphere Tron has, the special style and the idea behind it.
Another point, where i'm curious about it, is if the sequel can really connect to the first film, or if it would have a 'bad taste' like knowing Star Wars Episode 4-6 for along time, and suddenly you have Episode 1-3, all shiny and designed, but a little strange for the Star Wars universe until that timepoint. Episode 1-3 were great, but only for themself, but IMHO they don't match 4-6, and i know about many thinking the same.
And about an increasing community for Tron 2.0, if a 'Legacy'-game should fail, here are few points against it (tho i wish it would be different): the engine is too old, the modding-quality too poor. And there is no support from any offical side anymore, and the community can't support anything as we have no source. And why should people peek at an old engine with no real 'freedom' in modding, if, on the other side, there are other engines like UT3 or HL2, etc. Especially if some engines like UT3 are free to use under some limitations.
