Yes. What will happen is that you will need to install Steam and log in to your account. At the bottom, it will show the games that you have registered with Steam. To the right of each game, you will see the word "Install". Click on it and follow the instructions. It downloads the necessary files from the server, so you won't need your discs.
I had to do this a few times, so I'm pretty experienced at it.

one more suggestion, If you reinstall steam, you can paste all the data in the folders(from your HD, also you could burn them to dvd). I move my entire folder from drive to drive If I upgrade or whatnot. The only thing keeping you from steam is the data somewhere in the folder sharing bad info with the EXE, not the rest of the files..
When I transfer the entire folder, after a reinstall, it's already fixed 75% of your existing file system, it takes less time to do it this way, as opposed to Steam trying to do it when it pleases, and it's gonna take a day to do that.
Also, Steam is incompatible with Xfire in some PCs. Try uninstalling Xfire first, since there's not much to lose.. Then try again.. cuz even if you reinstall, the problem could still be a compatibility issue anyway.
Did you ever retrieve your login info from steam?

Wait, would I possibly end up losing all of my saved game data in the unlikely event of me having to get a replacement computer? Some of those Portal acheivements that I've got are hard to get!Avi wrote:Yes. What will happen is that you will need to install Steam and log in to your account. Yea, they are all tied to your account, not to the game data. You can even see those achievements outside the game on your Steam Profile page. Just go on view stats on one of your games that have them, like Portal.Layer wrote:I think the achievements are tied to your SteamID so you shouldn't have to start over in that respect.
